The purpose of this site is to provide helpful information to students and parents regarding all science courses I teach at Poyen High School as well as information related to science programs offered by our district. Please use the contact me tab if you have questions or concerns related to the science courses on this site.
All Arkansas high school graduates are required to earn a minimum of three science credits in order to receive a high school diploma. Currently our district's requirements include 9th grade physical science, 10th grade biology, and a third science of the student's choice. Our school district offers the following high school (9-12 grades) science courses:
* Physical Science (all 9th grade students)
* Biology (all 10th grade students)
* Environmental Science (juniors / seniors)
* Chemistry (juniors / seniors - prerequisites are Algebra II and at least concurrent Pre-Cal Trig enrollment)
* Physics (seniors - prerequisites are Algebra II and Pre-Cal Trig)
* Human Anatomy and Physiology (juniors / seniors)
* AP Biology (seniors - prerequisites are Chemistry, Algebra II and Pre-Cal Trig)
* College Biology for concurrent credit throught College of the Ouachitas (seniors - Prerequisites are Chemistry, Algebra II and Pre-Cal Trig)
* College Environmental Science for concurrent credit through College of the Ouachitas (seniors - Prerequisite is Chemistry)
