Safety in Science Lab
In my classroom the lab safety guidelines outlined by the Arkansas Science Teacher's Association (ASTA) are used as the framework for science lab safety. It is very important that all safety guidelines and procedures are followed in every lab activity in order to ensure the safety of every student in my classroom. All students are required to complete lab safety training in the first week of school and pass a lab safety exam at the end of that training before being allowed to take part in any laboratory exercise. Students must also read and agree to abide by the lab safety rules stated in Flinn Scientific's student lab contract for the class which is signed by the student and parent/guardian before the student can participate in lab activities. The lab safety contract must be signed and returned to me to be kept be on file before the student can take part in any lab activities. Below you will find a link to the ASTA's webiste and safety guidelines as well as other important lab safety documents.
